Stream Station (2021)
“Interconnecting Entertainment”
Before learning interaction design, I studied the foundations that make up the data organization of information systems. This project proposal allowed me to understand how data is visualized based on software purpose and integrity.
I created 4 key wireframes that correspond to my envisioned application’s metadata schemas/records, framed user personas and discussed the implications of this technology.

Stream Station App Proposal Document
This project is in the form of an app proposal, based in mobile entertainment and streaming technology. The goal of this app is to house multiple streaming services under a singular framework, optimizing access and invoking a streamlined entertainment experience. Stream Station examines the concepts, and basis of information depiction, management, descriptive factors, record structure, and classification of UX components.
Conceptual foundations in this document include the methods and strategies to develop systems for storing, organizing and retrieving information in different organizational contexts, as well as the political, ethical and social implications of these systems.
Kagan Consumer Insights surveys of U.S. internet adults reveal that U.S. internet households used an average of 6.8 streaming video services in March of 2022. This results in many households in America having to manage their different streaming platforms. These viewers are tasked with sorting which shows, movies or documentaries are found in which platform. This allows for potential user frustration to emerge in the market of streaming subscriptions throughout the many users who subscribe to different media companies.
Context & Research
Objective
Stream Station’s goal is to become a platform allowing users to bundle their streaming subscriptions and access them through a single portal. By creating a user in the application, a personalized catalog of media will be navigable based on user subscriptions. This gives the app the purpose of convenience for users who have numerous subscriptions and commitments to several streaming companies such as Netflix and Hulu. By housing and managing all of these networks under a single software, users will benefit from less cross-platform searching. With multiple networks embedded into our system, users can have an optimized algorithm of suggestions, analytics and catalogue.
User Personas
-
Steven Fletcher, 53
USER PERSONA: ANALYTICS & SUBSCRIPTION MANAGEMENT
Accessing his profile on Stream Station, Steven is revealed analytics of his family’s content usage. Account Dashboards shows he does not view content in one of his subscriptions as much, and when his children views shows from that streaming provider, that content is already available in another subscription he possesses. Taking benefit from this feature, Steven cancels his useless subscription, saving money.
-
Aliah Moreno, 21
USER PERSONA: INSTER-PLATFORM NAVIGATION (PRIMARY APP PURPOSE)
Aliah has numerous streaming services and is dealt with the task of accessing all subscriptions she owns for accessing exclusive content throughout all services. For example, Aliah finds herself wanting to watch an HBO licensed show “Euphoria” then would want to watch a Netflix original afterwards. By logging into her several accounts in the initialization process, she can seamlessly switch through each show on 1 platform, avoiding the frustrating pathways required for accessing subscription content. This allows the user to switch to other exclusive media such as Spotify exclusive podcasts.
-
Daniel Johnson, 33
USER PERSONA: SUBSCRIPTION EXPOSURE & DISCOUNTING
Daniel solely watches on Netflix and Disney+ through this app as those are his current subscriptions. He decides he wants to watch The Harry Potter series. He adds those titles on his wishlist and receives a query that provides a list of services that let users stream that show. This user then confirms a free trial for HBO+ that has the Harry Potter franchise and watches the series on Stream Station. After enjoying his trial watching several shows that aren’t on Disney and Netflix, he purchases a subscription at a discounted rate, earning more content.
Wireframes
After defining the problem and discovering my proposed software’s implications, I had to visualize my application. It was time to make my very first set of wireframes in my UX career.
“[Stream Central’s] proposal achieves in encompassing everything needed to fulfill a data-rich application.”
- Ryan O’Grady, Deputy Director of the Enoch Pratt Free Central Library Sciences at the Stream Station proposal presentation
Impact on my UX Journey
Despite me designing interfaces, this project didn't stress the User Experience field of software, rather, it grew my understanding of data integrity and directories. Learning these infrastructures allowed me to understand the front-end administration of User Interface designs. It further explained to me how front-end components result in useful functions when implemented correctly as a designer. Researching software implications such as marketability and system integrations expanded my knowledge in other specialties to consider as a software designer, as my work directs how these operations are scaled through interfacing.
This project gave me the comprehension of front-end frameworks that I later benefited from when learning the technical aspects of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The learned skills from this project allowed me to gain full comprehension as a Wix website administrator in future positions.
The success of my proposal resulted in a job from the University of Maryland’s iSchool as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant and Section Discussion Lecturer, assisting students with their own app proposals in the iSchool’s upper major electives.
